Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has expressed high praise for the club’s latest recruitment, 22-year-old Slovenian striker Benjamin Šeško, lauding the forward’s attributes and projecting a bright future at Old Trafford following his marquee arrival from RB Leipzig.
Describing Šeško as the embodiment of everything United sought in a modern centre-forward, Amorim said: “He has the characteristics that we needed. He is really young, he is good in the air, he is good running the channels and he is good on the ball, so I think he has great potential. I think he can improve a lot. For sure, he is going to feel at home in our club. He is the right character in this group, so we are really, really happy to have him.”
Amorim further emphasized Šeško’s work ethic and desire to succeed, telling MUTV: “Ben is a player – with all the information that we have – that we need to stop the guy from working, not the opposite!… He has the right character to be in this group.”
Šeško was officially unveiled on August 9, signing a five-year deal until 2030 in a transfer worth an initial €76.5 million (roughly £66-67 million), potentially rising by €8.5 million in add-ons, representative of the club’s renewed ambition to overhaul a previously stagnant attack.
United wasted no time in integrating him alongside fellow summer signings Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, setting the stage for a promising frontline intended to reinvigorate the club’s offensive output.
Šeško himself admitted to being attracted not just by United’s storied history, but by the vision laid out for the future. “The history of Manchester United is obviously very special, but what really excites me is the future. When we discussed the project, it was clear that everything is in place for this team to continue to grow and compete for the biggest trophies again soon… I can not wait to start learning from Ruben and connecting with my teammates.”
Behind the scenes, there was fierce competition to secure the rising star’s signature. Reports indicate Newcastle United tabled their own offer, reportedly higher, and offered Champions League football—but ultimately failed to sway Šeško’s preference for Old Trafford, reportedly influenced by Amorim’s persuasive presentation of his tactical plans.
Šeško arrives with an impressive résumé: having scored 39 goals in 87 appearances for RB Leipzig, and appearing 41 times for Slovenia, he brings both experience and raw physicality—at 1.95 m—complemented by technical nimbleness and pace.
At United’s Carrington training ground, Amorim noted improvements underway in facilities and infrastructure, signaling the club’s ambition to match their recruitment with environment and systems capable of nurturing elite talent: “He is going to notice, since the first day and first training, that he is in the right place… Things are getting better but, in the end, we need to win games.”
Šeško’s addition caps what has been an aggressive summer investment drive.
Manchester United have invested in excess of £200 million, targeting their most glaring weakness last season—goal scoring—by reinforcing their frontline and signaling an intent to rebound strongly after a troubled 2024–25 campaign.
