Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) have officially secured the signing of goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier, arriving from Lille on a five-year deal to bolster their ambitions both domestically and in Europe. The 23-year-old Frenchman has been unveiled as the club’s new number one between the sticks, stepping into a role that signals both continuity and renewal for the reigning Champions League holders.
Chevalier, a proud product of Lille’s academy, completes a significant switch within Ligue 1 amid much fanfare.
The agreement reportedly involves €40 million in guaranteed fees plus up to €15 million in performance-related bonuses, bringing the potential total to €55 million, a considerable figure that showcases PSG’s conviction in his potential.
Born in Calais on November 6, 2001, Chevalier progressed through regional clubs Sporting Club Coquelles and AS Marck before joining Lille’s acclaimed academy in 2014.
He progressed steadily through the youth ranks, making his National 2 debut as a 16-year-old in 2018 and earning an early loan to Valenciennes in 2021–22, where he featured as first-choice and earned Ligue 2 Goalkeeper of the Year honors.
Upon returning to Lille, he quickly established himself in the senior side. His professional debut came in September 2022 against Marseille, and he soon rose to prominence with standout performances including a dramatic penalty save in a derby against Lens.
The 2024–25 season marked his true breakthrough. Chevalier amassed 11 clean sheets in Ligue 1, boasted the third-best goals-conceded ratio, and cemented his place as one of the top goalkeepers in the league.
He also made 147 saves across all competitions—among the highest in Europe’s top five leagues. His performances earned him the UNFP Ligue 1 Goalkeeper of the Year award, and he became the youngest-ever nominee for the prestigious Yashin Trophy.
Speaking in his first remarks to PSG ahead of his unveiling, Chevalier expressed his gratitude and ambition: “I am a kid that is living his dream. Ever since I was small I wanted to play at the very highest level. I would like to thank the Chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi, Luis Campos and the coach, Luis Enrique… I’m really delighted to be here. I will wear this shirt with passion and ambition.”
PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, reflecting on the signing, highlighted the club’s long-term intent: “Paris Saint-Germain is delighted to welcome Lucas Chevalier into our family. Lucas is one of the leading goalkeepers in France and Europe and a fantastic addition to our team— as we continue to build everything for the long-term based on the collective.”
Tactically and strategically, the acquisition of Chevalier fits seamlessly with PSG’s evolving philosophy under coach Luis Enrique and sporting director Luis Campos. Known for his composure with the ball at his feet and ability to initiate play from the back, Chevalier mirrors the profile of a modern ‘sweeper keeper’—precisely what Enrique values in his system.
