Brazilian midfielder Reinier Jesus has completed a permanent transfer from Real Madrid to Atlético Mineiro, ending a turbulent five-year period in Europe. The 23-year-old, who joined Madrid from Flamengo in 2020 for €30 million, never made a first-team appearance for the Spanish giants.

His move to Atlético Mineiro marks a fresh chapter in his career, as he returns to Brazil with hopes of revitalising his playing prospects.

Real Madrid confirmed the transfer in an official statement, expressing gratitude for Reinier’s time at the club and wishing him well in his future endeavours. The club also announced that they would retain 50% of his economic rights, securing a potential future fee should Atlético Mineiro decide to sell the player.

Reinier’s journey at Real Madrid was marked by a series of loan spells across Europe, including Borussia Dortmund, Girona, Frosinone, and Granada. Despite these opportunities, he struggled to make a significant impact, accumulating a modest tally of seven goals and eight assists in 105 appearances.

Upon his arrival in Belo Horizonte, Reinier was warmly welcomed by Atlético Mineiro fans at the airport. He expressed his excitement about the move, stating, “I’m very happy to be here. The affection I’ve received is something I didn’t experience in Europe. I’m eager to contribute to the team and help us achieve our goals.”

Atlético Mineiro’s sporting director, Paulo Bracks, played a pivotal role in bringing Reinier to the club, alongside manager Cuca.

Bracks had been in contact with Reinier for some time, highlighting the club’s interest and vision for the player. The club’s commitment to Reinier’s development was a significant factor in his decision to join.

Reinier’s move to Atlético Mineiro is seen as an opportunity for him to rediscover his form and fulfil the potential that once made him one of Brazil’s most promising talents.

With a contract running until 2029, he now has a stable environment to focus on his footballing career.
