Broja Joins Burnley as Clarets Bank on Former Chelsea Striker’s Comeback

For Burnley, Broja arrives as their 13th signing of the summer and joins fellow ex-Chelsea players Lesley Ugochukwu and Bashir Humphreys already at Turf Moor.

Armando Broja, the 23-year-old Albanian striker, has officially completed a permanent transfer from Chelsea to newly promoted Burnley, sealing what could be a pivotal turning point in his career. Burnley confirmed the move on August 8, 2025, marking a significant investment in their hopes of establishing themselves in the Premier League.

Reports indicate that the Clarets have paid an initial fee in the region of £20 million, potentially rising with add-ons, securing a five-year deal that runs through to June 2030.

Broja’s journey from promising academy graduate to injury-hit misfit began at Chelsea, where he arrived as an under-9 and soared through the youth ranks. In the 2019–20 season, he scored 23 goals in 33 games for Chelsea’s youth side, earning a reputation as one of the club’s brightest attacking prospects.

His senior debut came soon after, but his time at Stamford Bridge never became the breakthrough that many had anticipated—he managed just 38 appearances and scored three goals at senior level for Chelsea.

During his early professional years, Broja benefited from a series of loan spells. He enjoyed relative success at Vitesse, netting 10 league goals in 30 appearances, and later impressed at Southampton with six goals in 32 Premier League matches, even becoming the first Albanian to score in England’s top flight.

Yet, injuries began derailing his progress. A serious ACL rupture in the 2022–23 season kept him sidelined for most of the year, and subsequent loan moves to Fulham and Everton failed to reignite his form—he departed both clubs goalless and largely anonymous.

Chelsea’s relationship with Broja reached its breaking point this summer amid a wider squad overhaul. He was one of multiple players Craig Manson Maresca’s reshaping project indicated could move on. Indeed, Chelsea’s high-volume summer exits have been noted by the head coach, who revealed that he often learns of departures via text conversations after the deals are done.

With other forward options arriving—such as Liam Delap, João Pedro, and Jamie Gittens—Broja’s path to meaningful minutes at Stamford Bridge was closing fast.

For Burnley, meanwhile, Broja arrives as their 13th signing of the summer and joins fellow ex-Chelsea players Lesley Ugochukwu and Bashir Humphreys already at Turf Moor.

The Clarets, supervised by head coach Scott Parker, have indeed tailored their recruitment toward rebuilding their squad for life back in the Premier League. Broja brings with him the promise of youthful energy and untapped potential, qualities Burnley hope will translate into goals and Premier League survival.

Broja expressed his excitement upon completing the move, stating: “I am really excited to be here as a Burnley player. It’s a really positive time to be joining this club ahead of the start of the new Premier League season. I can’t wait to get going! I’m feeling good, I’m ready and I’m excited about the challenge of playing for this club. I can already feel the support from the Burnley fans—I can tell you all that I will be giving my all every time I pull on the famous Claret shirt.”

Burnley’s rise from Championship runners-up—securing promotion with a record-breaking defensive campaign—to a Bundesliga-style no-nonsense outfit relying heavily on structure and resilience paints a backdrop for Broja’s arrival.
