The Ministry of Sports has disbursed Ksh42 million to the Harambee Stars following their 1-0 victory over DR Congo on Sunday, August 3.

The payment, released on Monday, August 4, was shared among 27 players and 15 members of the technical bench.

In a statement, State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohammed confirmed the fulfillment of the presidential pledge and indicated that another reward is on the table should the team win their next match against Angola on Thursday, August 7.

“President William Ruto has fulfilled his commitment to pay Ksh1 million each to all 27 Harambee Stars players and 15 members of the technical bench, a total of Ksh42 million, following the national team’s 1-0 win over the DRC on Sunday.

“The Sports ministry disbursed the funds, and a similar reward awaits the team after Thursday’s game against Angola,” he said.

On Saturday, August 2, 2025, prior to the opening CHAN match, President Ruto visited the national team’s camp at the Pullman Hotel in Upper Hill, where he unveiled a lucrative incentive package designed to motivate the players.

He pledged that each player would receive Ksh1 million for every match won and Ksh500,000 for every draw.

Additionally, the team stands to gain Ksh60 million if they reach the quarter-finals, Ksh70 million for making the semi-finals, and Ksh600 million if they go on to win the CHAN championship.

“I want us to make a deal. For every game you win, every player gets Ksh1 million. For every game you draw, every player gets Ksh500,000.

“We had agreed that the team would get Ksh200 million for making it to the finals. But I make it Ksh600 million if you make it to the finals. I have multiplied everything for everyone to play their part,” he said.
