Excitement is building as East Africa prepares to host the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), a landmark tournament co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda for the first time in history.

The competition officially kicks off this weekend and runs through August 30, with thousands of fans expected to turn up in support of their national teams.

To facilitate a smooth experience for attendees, the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has released detailed instructions on ticketing and stadium access for the duration of the month-long event.

Fans attending matches in Kenya will need to purchase their tickets in advance through the official online platform.

Two categories are available to the public—Regular and Silver—with no physical ticket sales at the venues. It’s important to note that VIP and VVIP sections are off-limits to the general public.

These have been reserved for invited guests, senior officials, and accredited personnel only.

At Nairobi’s Kasarani Stadium, access has been divided among four gates, each serving specific groups of attendees based on entry points and ticket type.

Gate 1 and Gate 2 will accommodate fans coming from TRM, Mwiki, Ngomongo, and the Safari Park footbridge.

Verification stations will be placed at the TRM interchange, Ngomongo Police Station, Safari Park Hotel entrance, and Kasarani Gate II.

Both Silver and Regular ticket holders will use these gates.

Gate 3 is meant for those entering via the Safari Park footbridge. Checks will be conducted at the stadium gate opposite Safari Park Hotel, Kasarani Gate 11, and Ngomongo Police Station.

Gate 4 is designated for high-level guests including the President, VVIPs, media, and VAPS-accredited individuals. Only accredited vehicles will be allowed entry through this gate.

Access is limited to the Safari Park footbridge, with checks at Kasarani Gate 4.

Nyayo Stadium will also operate with four designated entry gates to help manage crowd flow efficiently. Gate 1 and Gate 2 are open to fans accessing the venue via Uhuru Highway.

Ticket checks will occur at key spots along Bunyala Road, Lusaka Road, T-Mall, and Mombasa Road. Both Regular and Silver ticket holders are permitted through these gates.

Gate 3, accessed via Lang’ata Road and Posta, shares the same verification points and serves both ticket categories.

Gate 4 is strictly reserved for VIP and VVIP guests entering through Douglas Wakiihuri Road, previously known as Aerodrome Drive. Verification for these guests will take place after entry.

To support smooth operations and maintain security on match days, authorities will enforce road closures near the stadiums.

According to Nairobi Traffic Commandant Joseph Chirchir, roads affected on Sunday include Mombasa Road, Lang’ata Road, and Aerodrome Road.

Motorists heading to the city centre are encouraged to use alternative routes such as Likoni-Enterprise Road, the Southern Bypass at General Motors, Raila Odinga Road, or Muhoho Road.

For those exiting the CBD, recommended routes include Limuru Road, Kiambu Road, and Ruaraka–Baba Dogo Road.

Drivers travelling towards Thika are advised to consider the Eastern Bypass, Kiambu Road, or Limuru Road.

With the tournament just days away, fans are urged to familiarize themselves with these guidelines and plan ahead.
