Arsenal Football Club has secured the future of one of its brightest young talents, as 18-year-old defender Myles Lewis-Skelly signed a new five-year contract, keeping him at the Emirates Stadium until 2030. The announcement, confirmed by the club on Thursday, marks a significant milestone for the Hale End academy graduate who has rapidly risen to prominence under manager Mikel Arteta.
Lewis-Skelly, a versatile player who transitioned from a central midfielder in Arsenal’s youth setup to a dynamic left-back, enjoyed a breakthrough 2024/25 season, making 39 first-team appearances across all competitions. His standout performances included a memorable first Premier League goal in a 5-1 victory over Manchester City and a crucial assist in a 3-0 Champions League win against Real Madrid.
“I’m so proud and happy,” Lewis-Skelly told Arsenal’s official website. “I’m a fan, and it’s like a dream come true. I want to win everything there is to win in the game and create a legacy at this club.” The teenager, who joined Arsenal at age eight, emphasized his commitment to staying grounded and embodying the values of the club’s famed Hale End academy.
The new deal comes amid interest from European giants, including Real Madrid, but Lewis-Skelly’s heart has always been with Arsenal. His mother, Marcia Lewis, who serves as his agent, played a key role in negotiations, alongside Arsenal’s manager Mikel Arteta and director of football operations James King. Arteta’s personal involvement was pivotal, with reports highlighting his “special role” in ensuring the young star remained in North London.
Lewis-Skelly’s rapid rise has also earned him international recognition. In March, he became the youngest player to score on their England debut, netting in a 2-0 win against Albania at Wembley. With three senior caps already, he is expected to be a contender for England’s 2026 World Cup squad. His performances last season also saw him nominated for the PFA Young Player of the Year award, alongside teammate Ethan Nwaneri and others.
