Formula 1 has solidified its presence in the United States with a historic 10-year contract extension for the Miami Grand Prix, ensuring the race will remain on the calendar through 2041. Announced on Friday, May 2, 2025, ahead of the fourth Miami Grand Prix at Hard Rock Stadium, the deal marks the longest contracted event on the Formula 1 calendar, underscoring the sport’s growing popularity in America.

The Miami Grand Prix, which debuted in 2022 as part of Formula 1’s push to expand in the U.S. under Liberty Media’s ownership, has quickly become a cornerstone of the sport’s American presence. The temporary street circuit, known as the Miami International Autodrome, winds through the Hard Rock Stadium parking lot and has drawn massive crowds, with last year’s event attracting 275,000 fans over the race weekend. The extension doubles the event’s original 10-year contract, which was set to expire in 2031, reflecting confidence in its success and cultural impact.

“Securing a 10-year extension with Formula 1 through 2041 is an extraordinary milestone for all of us at South Florida Motorsports,” said Tom Garfinkel, managing partner of the Formula 1 Crypto.com Miami Grand Prix. “It’s a testament to the hard work of our team, the strength of our partnerships, the support of our community, and the growth of the sport in the United States.”

F1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali hailed the Miami Grand Prix as “one of the most important and spectacular events on our calendar” in just three years. “Extending this agreement until 2041 is a strategic milestone of enormous importance, which strengthens our presence in America and consolidates the ever-deepening bond with our fan base there, which is constantly growing and passionate like never before,” he said.

The announcement comes as Formula 1 enjoys a surge in U.S. interest, fueled by events like the Miami Grand Prix, the Circuit of The Americas in Austin, and the Las Vegas Grand Prix, which joined the calendar in 2023. Miami’s vibrant, inclusive atmosphere, blending high-octane racing with off-track entertainment, has made it a fan favorite. The 2025 event, running May 2-4, features over 65 local and international restaurants, live screenings, and immersive experiences like F1 simulators, further cementing its status as a cultural and sporting spectacle.

The extension also highlights Formula 1’s long-term commitment to the U.S. market, which Liberty Media has prioritized since acquiring the sport. “From day one, our goal has been to create a world-class race that also reflects the spirit of Miami — vibrant, inclusive, and culturally significant,” Garfinkel added. “This long-term commitment allows us to continue innovating, investing in the fan experience, and deepening our impact across South Florida.”

On X, the news sparked excitement among fans and observers. One post noted, “The Miami GP is here to stay, with F1 inking a landmark 10-year extension with South Florida Motorsports, locking in the popular event through 2041 – the longest deal in the sport’s history!” Another highlighted the significance for F1’s U.S. expansion, stating, “F1 really struggled in America and now we have three grands prix.”
