Brighton & Hove Albion have reportedly placed staggering £100 million price tags on their star players Joao Pedro and Carlos Baleba, sending a clear message to Premier League giants Liverpool, Chelsea, and Newcastle that their prized assets will not come cheap. The news, first reported by talkSPORT, comes as the Seagulls look to capitalize on their reputation for developing talent and commanding top-tier transfer fees, a strategy that has seen them thrive in recent years.

Joao Pedro, the 23-year-old Brazilian forward, has been a standout performer for Brighton since joining from Watford in the summer of 2023. With 17 goals in 54 Premier League appearances, his flair and finishing have caught the eye of Liverpool, who are said to be in the market for attacking reinforcements as they plan for the future under manager Arne Slot. Sources suggest the Reds have already held preliminary discussions about a potential summer move, viewing Pedro as a versatile option to bolster their frontline.

Meanwhile, 21-year-old Cameroonian midfielder Carlos Baleba has emerged as one of the league’s most promising talents in his debut full season as a regular starter. Operating primarily as a defensive midfielder, Baleba has started 23 of his 25 Premier League appearances in the 2024-25 campaign, contributing two goals and an assist while showcasing his tenacity and technical ability. His performances have drawn interest from Chelsea, who see him as a long-term midfield anchor, and Newcastle, who are keen to strengthen their squad for a push toward European qualification. Manchester City have also been mentioned as potential suitors, further highlighting Baleba’s rising stock.

Brighton’s decision to slap £100 million valuations on each player reflects their confidence in their worth, buoyed by the club’s track record in the transfer market. The Seagulls famously sold Moises Caicedo to Chelsea for a British-record £115 million in 2023, a deal that owner Tony Bloom reportedly views as a benchmark for Pedro and Baleba. “Brighton know what they have in Joao Pedro and Carlos Baleba – nobody in England has a better track record of buying low and selling high,” transfer journalist Graeme Bailey told Rousing the Kop. “When Brighton say they want £100m, they should be believed.”

The hefty price tags could prove a stumbling block for the interested clubs. Liverpool, despite their interest, have rarely splashed out such sums, with their current club-record transfer standing at £75 million for Virgil van Dijk in 2018. A combined £200 million outlay for the Brighton duo would shatter that mark, raising questions about whether the Reds would pivot to alternative targets like Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, who carries a reported £150 million valuation. Chelsea, meanwhile, have shown a willingness to spend big under their current ownership, but their midfield depth might temper their pursuit of Baleba. Newcastle’s financial muscle, backed by their Saudi ownership, could see them enter the race more aggressively, though their priorities may lie elsewhere.

Brighton’s strong stance comes at a time when the club is enjoying a successful season under manager Fabian Hurzeler. Currently in contention for a Champions League spot, the Seagulls have no pressing need to sell, and their £222.4 million turnover for the 2023-24 season – bolstered by the Caicedo windfall – provides financial stability. For now, Pedro and Baleba remain integral to Brighton’s ambitions, but the summer transfer window promises to bring intense speculation as England’s elite clubs weigh their options.
