Bayern Munich’s star striker Harry Kane has signalled a strong desire to extend his stay with the German champions beyond the 2027 expiry of his current contract, with the club’s leadership expressing reciprocal confidence that a deal will be reached at the right time.
The mutual intention for a new contract, which could keep the England captain at the Allianz Arena until at least 2028 or 2029, underscores the profound impact Kane has made since his record-breaking transfer from Tottenham Hotspur in 2023.
Club CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen welcomed what he called “positive signals” from the player, responding directly to Kane’s recent remarks at a fan club visit where the striker declared it was “100 per cent possible” he would remain with Bayern long-term. “If he said that, then I am happy about it,” Dreesen stated, emphasising Kane’s “incredible importance” to the team through his goals, style of play, and leadership.
The CEO confirmed that formal discussions are planned but will be conducted without haste. “We will certainly speak to each other at the appropriate and right time,” Dreesen explained, highlighting the “great trust” between Kane’s camp and the club board.
That trust was forged during the intense negotiations to bring Kane to Bavaria, a period Dreesen recalled as a personal and collective “fight”. The investment, exceeding £86 million, has been vindicated by Kane’s immediate and sustained success.
He has netted 115 goals in just 121 appearances for the club, a rate of scoring so prolific that Dreesen has publicly mused the transfer now looks like a bargain. “If someone had told us that Harry would get better from season to season, we probably would have paid even more,” the CEO admitted.

The player’s personal comfort in Germany is considered a critical factor in the positive outlook for contract talks. Dreesen noted the significance of Kane’s family settling in Munich after initially living in a hotel.
This sentiment was echoed by honorary president Uli Hoeneß, who confirmed the existence of a release clause in Kane’s contract while expressing confidence in an extension. “His family feels very comfortable. In Munich, you can still go about your business in peace,” Hoeneß remarked, contrasting it with a life in London where Kane “only ever worked with bodyguards”.
While the club’s desire is clear, the structure and timing of a new deal involve careful consideration. Kane’s current contract contains a reported €65 million release clause, which has been active annually and is set to become active again in the summer of 2026.
This clause, coupled with reported interest from English clubs like Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur, introduces a formal deadline into the long-term planning. However, Kane himself has moved to quell speculation, stating recently that it is “very unlikely” he leaves this summer and that he has had no contact with other clubs.
“I’m really happy in Munich… and I can’t see anything changing in the near future,” Kane said.
Internally, Bayern are prepared to make an exception to their typical policy for players over thirty, with discussions centering on whether to offer a one- or two-year extension to 2028 or 2029. The club’s confidence in his longevity is rooted in a playing style that relies more on intelligence and technique than pure athleticism.
Head coach Vincent Kompany has praised Kane’s evolution into a complete forward, noting, “He’s unlocked his next level by himself… He’s felt what his role in our team can be, also among his teammates”.
With initial talks already understood to have taken place, all indications point toward a committed future together. For Bayern Munich, securing Harry Kane to a new contract would not only retain Europe’s most outstanding striker but would affirm the stability and appeal of their project as they chase the highest honours.
