In a significant move for the club’s long-term planning, FC Bayern Munich has officially announced that German international forward Serge Gnabry has signed a new contract, securing his services at the Allianz Arena until June 30, 2028.

The 30-year-old’s previous deal was set to expire this summer, making this two-year extension a decisive piece of business for the German record champions.

Club executives were effusive in their praise for the player, highlighting his integral role both on and off the pitch. Max Eberl, Bayern’s board member for sport, described Gnabry as “one of the absolute pillars of this team,” emphasizing that “he’s hugely important both on the pitch and in the changing room”.

Eberl further noted that Gnabry’s winning mentality and continued ambition make him a role model who “represents Bayern”.

Sporting director Christoph Freund echoed this sentiment, praising Gnabry’s on-field qualities: “He’s versatile in attack, quick, skilled on the ball and in finishing,” while also valuing his demeanor and character within the squad.

For his part, Gnabry expressed both excitement and a sense of belonging that fueled his decision to extend his stay. “I’m excited to get to play for Bayern for more years. Talks were always positive,” the forward stated.

Reflecting on his journey, he added, “When I started at Bayern, I never would’ve thought that I’d be here for 10 years by the end of this contract”. Gnabry cited the team, coaches, fans, and the city of Munich as primary reasons for his renewal, concluding, “I feel very much at home at Bayern”.

He also conveyed a strong belief in the current squad, stating, “We’re a real unit and can achieve something big”.

The extension solidifies Gnabry’s legacy at the club he joined from Werder Bremen in 2017, following an initial loan season at Hoffenheim. Since establishing himself in Munich, he has compiled a formidable record of 100 goals and 69 assists in 311 competitive appearances.

His trophy cabinet with Bayern is equally impressive, featuring six Bundesliga titles, two DFB-Pokal crowns, and the coveted UEFA Champions League trophy from the 2020 season, among other honors.

The agreement also carries strategic importance for Bayern’s sporting project.

According to reports, the negotiation involved an adjustment to the club’s salary structure, with Gnabry agreeing to revised terms that align with the club’s financial planning while including performance-related bonuses.

Furthermore, the deal fends off speculative interest from other European clubs, including reported monitoring from Premier League and Serie A sides, ensuring a key attacking piece remains in Bavaria for the long term.
