Harambee Stars prospect Zech Obiero has received a major boost after securing sponsorship from a key organisation in the UK that will support him until the end of the season.
The young midfielder, who recently joined Tranmere Rovers from Leyton Orient earlier this month, is still settling into life at his new club as he adapts to the demands of League Two football.
Just weeks after completing the move, Obiero was announced as the latest player to be sponsored by Africa Oye for the remainder of the campaign.
Africa Oye is an annual festival held in Sefton Park and is widely recognised as the largest celebration of live African music and culture in the UK.
The organisation shared its excitement on social media as it confirmed the partnership, wishing the Kenyan youth international success as he continues his development in English football.
“As a lifelong Rovers fan working for the biggest celebration of African music and culture in the UK, it’s a pleasure to be able to make this happen.
“Africa Oye has a great history of past festivals in Birkenhead Park and today we carry on that presence with our partnership shows at the amazing Future Yard. We’re sure Zech will receive a warm welcome from the SWA and look forward to him helping Rovers climb the table in the second half of the season,” the organisation said of their sponsorship of Obiero.

The sponsorship comes at an important time for the Kenya U20 star, who made his debut for Tranmere Rovers last weekend. He played 71 minutes in an attacking midfield role and was trusted again in the starting XI for the home fixture against Crawley Town, marking his first appearance at Prenton Park.
Tranmere Rovers are currently enduring a difficult spell, having suffered a 2-1 defeat to Gillingham and aiming to end a six-game losing streak as they look to climb from 17th place in the 24-team League Two standings.
Meanwhile, Tranmere Rovers coach Andy Crosby recently explained the decision to substitute Obiero despite an encouraging debut performance, highlighting ongoing development considerations as the player continues to adjust to his new environment.
The sponsorship is expected to provide both support and visibility for Obiero as he aims to establish himself in English football, with strong performances potentially strengthening Benni McCarthy’s plans ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
