Rangers Football Club has completed its first significant signing of the January transfer window, securing Danish midfielder Tochi Chukwuani from Austrian Bundesliga champions Sturm Graz on an initial three-and-a-half-year deal.
The transfer, subject to standard international clearance and a work permit, is reported to involve a fee in the region of £4 million.
The 22-year-old arrives at Ibrox with a burgeoning reputation, having been a key part of the Sturm Graz squad that lifted the Austrian league title last season and competed in the UEFA Champions League. His development began at FC Nordsjælland in Denmark, where he made history as the sixth-youngest player ever to feature in the Danish Superliga at just 16 years old and later became the club’s youngest-ever league goalscorer.
After over 50 appearances for Lyngby, his performances earned him a move to Graz in the summer of 2024.

Expressing his enthusiasm upon joining, Chukwuani highlighted the allure of playing for one of Britain’s historic clubs. “I’m super excited. Rangers are a huge club and I can’t wait to hear the roar at Ibrox,” he told the club’s official media.
“It’s a historic club with a huge fanbase. There are huge expectations, and this is something as a footballer you want to play in front of. It gives motivation every weekend to go and give 100 per cent and do what you can to put smiles on people’s faces”.
Head coach Danny Röhl, who has made Chukwuani his inaugural signing, was equally positive about the acquisition. “We are really excited to bring Tochi to the club,” Röhl stated. “He is a player who strengthens our group and offers specific qualities that we believe will enhance our midfield department.
With experience of European competition and winning titles, as well as his technical and physical attributes, he knows exactly what is required to thrive at a club like Rangers”.
The defensive midfielder, who stands at 6ft 2in, brings a combative presence and has already faced both Rangers and Celtic this season in the Europa League with Sturm Graz. His arrival provides timely reinforcement for Röhl’s squad and bolsters the midfield options as Rangers continue their campaign on multiple fronts.
The club is also reportedly progressing with other potential signings, including Westerlo left-back Tuur Rommens, as they aim to strengthen their title challenge. Chukwuani could make his first appearance for the Light Blues in the upcoming Scottish Cup fixture against Annan Athletic.
