AFC Bournemouth will be without key attacker Marcus Tavernier for Saturday’s Premier League clash against Liverpool at Vitality Stadium after he sustained a hamstring injury in Monday’s 1-1 draw with Brighton.

Manager Andoni Iraola confirmed the setback in a press conference on Friday, describing the loss as “massive” for a squad already depleted by absences.

Tavernier, who scored his third goal contribution in three games before limping off in the 71st minute against Brighton, now faces an uncertain period on the sidelines due to his history of similar issues.

Iraola acknowledged the severity of the situation, noting that Tavernier’s versatility, he can operate as an attacking midfielder, winger, or in deeper roles, makes him indispensable. “He felt his hammy. He’s a player that has had in the past problems with the hammy,” Iraola said post-match on Monday.

The injury compounds Bournemouth’s attacking woes, following the departure of Antoine Semenyo and a knee injury to Justin Kluivert. While new signing Alex Toth is available and could feature, Iraola admitted the squad is “thin,” especially in wide areas, and urged the club to pursue further signings.

Striker Enes Ünal may return to the matchday squad, but David Brooks remains unavailable due to an ankle issue.

Liverpool, meanwhile, arrive with momentum after a midweek Champions League win in Marseille and the return of Mohamed Salah from Africa Cup of Nations duty. Manager Arne Slot confirmed Salah is “ready to play” and is expected to start.

Defender Ibrahima Konaté, who missed the Marseille trip for personal reasons, could return, though forward Federico Chiesa is a doubt after picking up a training injury. Slot described Chiesa’s chances of featuring as “50-50”.

The match marks the second meeting between the sides this season, following Liverpool’s victory in August.

Bournemouth, currently ninth after last season’s finish, have yet to earn a point against Liverpool under Iraola—a record the manager is eager to change. The game kicks off at 17:30 GMT and will be broadcast live on Sky Sports.
