Everton have successfully secured the long-term future of one of their standout performers, with midfielder James Garner signing a new four-and-a-half-year contract, committing to the club until June 2030.
The 24-year-old, who arrived from Manchester United in 2022, has developed into a crucial figure under manager David Moyes and was technically entering the final six months of his previous deal.
Garner expressed his commitment to the club’s project upon signing, stating, “I’m really excited to commit my future to Everton.” He highlighted his connection to the club, saying, “I’ve got family members who are all Evertonians, so I know exactly the passion and what it means to play for such a massive football club like this.” Looking ahead, Garner set a clear target: “The aim this season is to get into Europe. That’s what us, as a club, and us as players and staff, should be aiming for. Nothing less. I think that’s very achievable”.

His importance to the team is underscored by his performance data; this season, he leads the Premier League in combined defensive and creative contributions, with 64 tackles, 32 interceptions, and 27 key passes.
Manager David Moyes praised Garner’s development, saying, “We’re really pleased to have Jimmy commit his long-term future to Everton. He is a player who has developed hugely… we’re now seeing a really important midfielder… and someone who is turning into a leader for us”.
The new contract concludes months of negotiations and ends speculation linking Garner with a move away, including reported interest from his former club Manchester United and clubs in Serie A.
Securing Garner’s future is seen as a significant piece of business for Everton, arguably more impactful than any potential January transfer signing, as it protects a major asset and demonstrates the club’s intent to build a competitive squad.
Garner is the latest key player to extend his stay following recent new deals for Jarrad Branthwaite, Jordan Pickford, and James Tarkowski.
