In a commanding display on Tuesday evening, Arsenal reaffirmed their status as one of Europe’s best-prepared sides as they dispatched Slavia Prague 3–0 at the Eden Arena, extending their perfect start to the group stage of the UEFA Champions League.

The Gunners’ performance was everything their supporters could have hoped for – clinical in attack, resolute in defence, and unrelenting in maintaining pressure. Manager Mikel Arteta’s side once again demonstrated that when their shape and discipline are functioning, the margin for error is minimal.

From the early exchanges, it was clear that Slavia Prague would struggle to carve out openings. The Czech side entered the match searching for momentum – still without a win in the group stage and sitting on just two points.

Arsenal, in contrast, came in with three wins from three, eight goals scored and none conceded. The opening goal arrived after 32 minutes when Arsenal were awarded a penalty.

A header by Gabriel struck Slavia captain Lukas Provod’s raised hand in the penalty area, and after a VAR review the decision was given. Bukayo Saka calmly converted from the spot to give Arsenal the lead.

That goal changed the dynamic of the match. Slavia, who had tried to assert themselves in the opening quarter-hour, were forced back and found it increasingly difficult to escape Arsenal’s press and structure.

The Premier League side, meanwhile, grew into the game with assurance. The half closed with Arsenal in control, their composure on the ball dictating the rhythm.

The second half began almost exactly as the first had ended, but within seconds Arsenal had struck again. In the 46th minute – just 36 seconds into the new half – Arsenal doubled their lead.

A cross from Leandro Trossard found substitute Mikel Merino, who volleyed the ball past Slavia goalkeeper Jakub Markovic. That blow knocked the wind out of Slavia’s sails. Arsenal now had a comfortable cushion, and they showed no sign of easing off.

The third goal came in the 68th minute, the culmination of a precise move initiated by Declan Rice. He lofted a ball into the box, and Merino ghosted in to power a header beyond the keeper and into the net.

With that, the contest was effectively settled. Slavia did press in the final phase but rarely troubled Arsenal’s defence, which now boasts an eighth consecutive clean sheet in all competitions – a club record shared only from 1903.

Beyond the goals, the margin of victory reflected Arsenal’s depth and adaptability. With key attackers unavailable, Arteta still found a way to impose his team’s style.

The introduction of 15-year-old Max Dowman in the second half to become the youngest-ever Champions League player – at just 15 years and 308 days – underlined the club’s boldness and trust in youth.
