APS Bomet stunned Gor Mahia 4-1 on Wednesday afternoon after Hansel Ochieng delivered a decisive hat-trick in a dramatic turnaround at the Nyayo National Stadium.
The heavy defeat now raises serious concerns for K’Ogalo ahead of their Saturday derby against AFC Leopards, with the league leaders suffering a humbling loss to a side battling relegation.
Gor Mahia had started strongly, taking an early lead through George Amonno, who finished calmly in the opening minutes. The goal was a significant personal milestone as it marked his first for the club since his arrival three months ago.
Buoyed by the early advantage, Gor Mahia controlled large portions of the first half, dictating possession and pushing for a second goal as APS Bomet struggled to settle.
However, the visitors gradually found their rhythm and drew level from the penalty spot after a foul inside the box. Hansel Ochieng converted confidently to restore parity.

Moments later, Ochieng struck again from open play, completing a quick turnaround that silenced the home supporters and sent APS Bomet into the break with a 2–1 lead.
In response, Gor Mahia made early second-half changes, withdrawing Samuel Kapen and Chris Ochieng for Paul Ochuoga and Musa Shariff. Soon after, Ben Stanley and Levin Odhiambo made way for Austine Odhiambo and Enock Morisson as the hosts pushed desperately for an equalizer.
APS Bomet began the second half the brighter side, moving the ball with intent and maintaining their attacking threat. Though Shariff Musa and Stanley linked up well for Gor Mahia, APS Bomet’s defense held firm under pressure.
The visitors’ goalkeeper received a yellow card in the 66th minute for time-wasting, reflecting the growing urgency from the league leaders.
Ochieng then completed his hat-trick in the 75th minute, finishing clinically to stretch APS Bomet’s lead to 3–1 and further deflate Gor Mahia’s comeback hopes.
Rodgers Kipkemoi added a late fourth in the 87th minute, sealing a remarkable win and giving APS Bomet a huge lift in their fight to escape the relegation zone.
Despite the loss, Gor Mahia remain top of the table with 19 points, while APS Bomet move up to 17th place on eight points.
