Calls for the removal of manager Ange Postecoglou have intensified among Nottingham Forest fans following a 3-2 home defeat to FC Midtjylland in the Europa League. The loss, which extended Forest’s winless run to six matches, has stoked anger and frustration, with large sections of the crowd openly chanting for Postecoglou’s exit during the match at the City Ground.
Postecoglou, appointed just weeks earlier to replace Nuno Espírito Santo, is now the first permanent manager in Forest’s history in a century to begin his tenure without a win from his first six games.
Despite the club’s recent qualification for European competition under his predecessor, there has been growing concern among supporters that the team is not adapting quickly enough under the new regime.
During the match against Midtjylland, as the hosts were chasing the game, fans broke into chants of “You’re getting sacked in the morning,” a phrase that has echoed around the stadium in recent fixtures. The frustration was particularly raw after a defensive lapse led to Midtjylland’s decisive third goal, prompting those in the stands to vocalise their displeasure with increasingly pointed attacks on the manager.
Some fans even sang the name of the previous manager, Nuno Espírito Santo, during the chant.
Asked about the hostile reaction, Postecoglou responded with measured composure. “The fans are disappointed and they are entitled to have an opinion on it,” he said. “I heard their opinion.” He added, “Nothing surprises me in football anymore. I guess it’s just the climate we are in … It’s nothing I can control. I have just got to make sure we get some wins for this football club.”

Even as the atmosphere around the club sours, Postecoglou insists he still believes in the direction he is taking. “Yes I do [believe we can turn things around] and nothing that I saw tonight changes any of that,” he said after the defeat. He acknowledged that he understands the mood among fans: “I understand people’s kind of attitude at the moment particularly towards me but I never worry about that I really believe that we’re on the right track.”
The poor results have included losses in the Premier League and defeats in cup competitions, as well as draws that many see as missed opportunities. Forest sit precariously low in both domestic and European competitions, and several upcoming fixtures—against Newcastle United, Chelsea, Bournemouth, and Manchester United—are viewed as potential turning points.
Failure to secure positive results in those matches may further inflame tensions inside and outside the club.
Supporters have made it clear that patience is running thin. The “sacked in the morning” chant, once sporadic, has become a recurring feature at home games, growing louder as hope for an early turnaround fades.
For many fans, the issue is not only about immediate results but also the manner in which the team is playing — defensive frailties, lack of consistency, and difficulties in closing out matches even when in positions to dominate.
The club’s ownership, led by Evangelos Marinakis, has so far remained publicly supportive of Postecoglou. There has been no official statement suggesting any imminent managerial change. But the mounting pressure from supporters—coupled with this historically poor start—raises serious questions about how long the current regime can be afforded the time many believe it deserves.
