Fiorentina has officially completed the signing of right-back Tariq Lamptey from Brighton & Hove Albion, sealing the transfer with a reported €6 million fee plus performance-related bonuses, and securing the defender on a four-year contract.
Born in Hillingdon, England, on 30 September 2000, Lamptey rose through Chelsea’s academy before breaking through to the senior team and later moving to Brighton in January 2020. Over five and a half years at the Amex Stadium, he notched up 122 appearances across all competitions, scoring five goals and providing 12 assists.
His pace, offensive instincts, and tactical flexibility—capable of operating on either flank—made him one of Brighton’s most dynamic options.
However, his final season at Brighton was marred by persistent fitness setbacks. He managed just 15 Premier League appearances, contributing two goals and several assists, but injuries ultimately limited his involvement and led to him being omitted from Brighton’s matchday squads in the opening fixtures of the current season.
Announcing the transfer, Brighton head coach Fabian Hürzeler expressed gratitude and well-wishes, remarking: “We’d like to thank Tariq for his time here at the club. He’s been a valued player throughout his time but, more than that, he is a brilliant professional and person. This is a good opportunity for him to play both Serie A and European football. On behalf of everyone at the club, I’d like to wish him all the very best for the future.”
Fiorentina confirmed that Lamptey will wear the number 48 jersey and join Brazilian wing-back Dodô in forming a competitive full-back pairing at the Stadio Artemio Franchi. His signing adds depth and versatility to the squad, with the Ghana international capable of providing cover on both defensive flanks.
Lamptey’s move also aligns with his international career and upcoming commitments. He has recently been named in Ghana’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Mali on 4 and 8 September, respectively.
Prior to this move, Lamptey had spent much of his formative footballing years in England. He originally joined Chelsea as a youth and made a handful of senior appearances before transferring to Brighton in early 2020.
He made an immediate impression with his dynamic style and attacking threat from deep, fitting seamlessly into Brighton’s system as a full-back who could push forward with tempo and flair.
At Brighton, Lamptey’s trajectory was promising. He quickly established himself as one of the league’s most exciting young full-backs. Unfortunately, after several setbacks from hamstring and knee injuries, his availability became limited. A knee injury sustained in March 2023 ruled him out for the remainder of that season, and fitness concerns continued to interrupt his rhythm.
Now, at 24 years old, Lamptey faces the opportunity to rebuild momentum in Italy. His arrival in Florence marks both a significant step for Fiorentina—strengthening their defensive options—and a fresh start for a talented player seeking to return to his best form.
