Erling Haaland netted five goals as Norway overwhelmed Moldova 11-1 in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying match on September 9, 2025, at the Ullevaal Stadion in Oslo. This performance not only propelled Norway to the top of Group I but also marked a significant milestone in Haaland’s international career.

The match began with an early goal from Felix Horn Myhre in the 5th minute, setting the tone for what would become a historic evening for Norwegian football. Haaland’s first goal came in the 10th minute, assisted by Myhre, and he completed a first-half hat-trick with goals in the 36th and 43rd minutes.

The second half saw Haaland add two more goals in the 52nd and 83rd minutes, bringing his international tally to an impressive 48 goals in 45 appearances.

Midfielder Martin Ødegaard also contributed to the scoreline, finding the net in the 40th minute. Substitute Thelo Aasgaard made an indelible mark by scoring four goals in the second half, including a penalty, while Moldova’s sole goal came from an own goal by Norwegian defender Leo ØstigĂ„rd in the 75th minute.

Haaland’s five-goal performance places him among an elite group of players who have achieved such a feat in international football. Notably, he became the fifth player to receive a perfect 10.0 rating on FotMob, joining the ranks of Neymar Jr. and Thomas Meunier.

This victory is a significant step for Norway as they aim to qualify for their first World Cup since 1998. With a perfect record of five wins from five matches, Norway leads Group I with 15 points, six ahead of second-placed Italy, who have a game in hand.

Reflecting on the match, Haaland expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance, stating, “It’s a great feeling to contribute to such a dominant win. The team played exceptionally well, and it’s a testament to our hard work and unity.”

Manager Heimir HallgrĂmsson praised Haaland’s clinical finishing and the team’s collective effort, emphasizing the importance of maintaining focus as they approach the final stages of qualification.

Haaland’s achievement adds to his growing list of records, including his five-goal performance against RB Leipzig in the UEFA Champions League in March 2023, where he became the first player to score five goals in a single Champions League match.

His consistency and ability to perform in high-pressure situations underscore his status as one of the premier strikers in world football.
