AC Milan has completed the acquisition of French forward Christopher Nkunku from Chelsea FC in a deal reportedly worth €42 million ($49 million). The 27-year-old has signed a five-year contract with the Serie A club, keeping him at the San Siro until June 2030.

Nkunku’s move to Milan marks the culmination of a journey that began in Paris Saint-Germain’s youth academy. After making his professional debut for PSG in 2015, he transferred to RB Leipzig in 2019, where he established himself as one of Europe’s most promising talents. His performances in Germany earned him a move to Chelsea in 2023.

However, his time at Stamford Bridge was marred by injuries, limiting his impact on the pitch. Despite these challenges, Nkunku managed to score 18 goals in 62 appearances for the Blues, contributing to their UEFA Conference League and Club World Cup victories.

AC Milan’s acquisition of Nkunku is seen as a strategic move to bolster their attacking options. Known for his dribbling prowess and versatility in the final third, Nkunku is expected to add dynamism to Milan’s forward line. His ability to operate both as a central striker and an attacking midfielder provides Milan with tactical flexibility.

The club’s sporting director expressed confidence in Nkunku’s potential to make an immediate impact, stating, “Christopher’s technical skills and adaptability will be invaluable assets to our squad.”

The transfer also underscores AC Milan’s ongoing efforts to rejuvenate their squad with experienced talents. Nkunku joins former Chelsea teammates Christian Pulisic and Ruben Loftus-Cheek at Milan, signaling a renewed ambition within the club.

While Milan did not qualify for European competitions this season, the addition of Nkunku is viewed as a long-term investment aimed at restoring the club’s stature in Italian and European football.

For Nkunku, the move to Milan represents a fresh start and an opportunity to rediscover his best form. Reflecting on his departure from Chelsea, he remarked, “I’m grateful for my time at Chelsea and the experiences gained, but I’m excited for the new challenges ahead in Milan.” With his arrival, AC Milan fans are hopeful that Nkunku’s flair and creativity will play a pivotal role in the club’s aspirations for the upcoming seasons.
