Manchester United officially unveiled three major attacking acquisitions, Matheus Cunha, Benjamin Šeško, and Bryan Mbeumo, amidst the storied surroundings of Old Trafford ahead of their pre-season friendly against Fiorentina.
The club’s bold summer transfer spree, spearheaded by manager Rúben Amorim, reflects a profound shift in ambition following a harrowing 15th-place Premier League finish last year.
The unveiling event, held on August 9, 2025, boasted a charged atmosphere as fans greeted the new arrivals with palpable excitement. Among them was Šeško, the 22-year-old Slovenian striker secured from RB Leipzig on a five-year deal reportedly worth up to £73.7 million, inclusive of add-ons.
Director of Football Jason Wilcox lauded Šeško’s blend of physicality and technique, citing both as key to his recruitment and United’s scouting prowess.
In an emotional nod to the striker’s journey, his agent, Elvis Basanović, shared a poignant message on social media: “Years ago, I made a promise to a young boy with a dream: together, we would reach the very top… Proud of you, Benjamin. The Theatre of Dreams awaits.”
Bryan Mbeumo’s arrival from Brentford for a reported £71 million (including add-ons) was another highlight. The Cameroonian-French winger, who starred impressively in the Premier League last season, expressed pride at joining his childhood club and eagerness to contribute under Amorim’s leadership.
Matheus Cunha, the Brazilian forward acquired earlier in June, rounds out the attacking trio, helping to craft a potent frontline aimed at revitalizing United’s goal-scoring firepower.
Manager Rúben Amorim spoke candidly about the trio’s potential, saying of Šeško: “He is really young, he is good in the air, he is good running the channels and he is good on the ball… I think he has great potential.” Clearly emphasizing that this unveiling was not merely ceremonial, he added: “Ben is a player that, with all the information that we have, we need to stop the guy from working.”
The unveiling comes in the wake of United’s turbulent 2024–25 season, marked by a dismal 15th-place Premier League finish and missing out on European qualification. The overhaul, estimated at more than £200 million across the new attacking signings, demonstrates a radical change in direction and urgency.
On the same day, United were officially confirmed as having signed Šeško on a five-year deal running through 2030, in a €76.5 million deal with €8.5 million in bonuses.
