Gor Mahia are reinforcing their squad ahead of the 2025/26 Football Kenya Federation Premier League season.

Gor Mahia were forced to end their season trophyless following their struggles during their campaign. They finished second behind Kenya Police FC in the 2024/25 season with 59 points.

Kenya Police FC were crowned champions following their impressive run that saw them earn 65 points ahead of the defending champions. Gor Mahia were looking to make a mark in the FKF Cup, but they were slapped with a shock 2-1 defeat to Nairobi United, who also triumphed in the National Super League.

Now, to bounce back stronger next season, Gor Mahia are making a few squad changes, releasing some players while bringing on board new blood, as they scout for talent at the ongoing African Nations Championship (CHAN 2024).

Lewis Bandi, a versatile defender who can operate as a full-back on either flank, has signed with Gor Mahia from AFC Leopards. Born and raised in Nairobi, Lewis Bandi is a product of the Makadara Junior League and has been a mainstay in the national team’s defence, often featuring prominently in their matches.

The former AFC Leopards captain highlights tenacity and defensive prowess, making him a valuable asset for both club and country.

In goal, Gor Mahia has acquired Bryne Omondi, a talented goalkeeper who has also been a revelation for the Harambee Stars. Omondi’s career has seen him play for several top-tier clubs, including Tusker, Posta Rangers, KCB, and Bandari, before his recent move to Gor Mahia.

His shot-stopping abilities and command of the penalty area have been on full display at CHAN 2024, earning him praise for his heroic performances between the posts.

Completing the trio is Michael Kibwage, a commanding centre-back who brings a wealth of experience to Gor Mahia’s defence. Kibwage, a former student of Mukumu Boys High School, has established himself as one of the best defenders.

He previously played for AFC Leopards, KCB and Tusker FC before his move to Gor Mahia. His leadership and composure on the ball have been vital for Kenya at the tournament, where he has worn the captain’s armband in some matches and proven to be a rock at the back.

The performances of these three players at CHAN 2024 serve as a clear indicator of Gor Mahia’s ambition.

Gor Mahia also appointed Charles Akonnor as part of their rebuilding process. The Ghanaian tactician, a former captain of both the Black Stars and German club VfL Wolfsburg, takes the helm after Gor Mahia endured a torrid season.

Akonnor’s arrival, along with a completely new technical bench, is a clear signal of the club’s intent to return to its former glory. The decision to appoint Charles Akonnor came after a comprehensive internal review that led to the dismissal of the entire previous coaching staff.
