Pierre Gasly parents

Pierre’s parents, Jean-Jacques Gasly and Pascale Gasly, have been instrumental in shaping his career, providing unwavering support and making significant sacrifices to fuel his racing dreams. Jean-Jacques, a former karting, endurance, and rally racing driver, passed down his enthusiasm for motorsport to Pierre.

His own racing background, coupled with his father’s karting legacy, created a motorsport-rich environment for Pierre from a young age. Jean-Jacques now runs a small printing business but remains actively involved in supporting Pierre’s career, having once handled the technical aspects of his son’s karting endeavors.

Pascale, a business graduate, played a pivotal role in managing Pierre’s racing career, particularly in securing sponsorships to fund his progression through the costly world of motorsport. She also oversees Pierre’s merchandising shop, demonstrating her ongoing commitment to his brand.

Both French nationals, Jean-Jacques and Pascale faced financial challenges to support Pierre’s karting and early racing career, often taking risks that strained family resources. Their dedication extended beyond finances, with Pascale managing Pierre’s hectic schedules and Jean-Jacques accompanying him to races, fostering a family-wide commitment to his success.

Pierre has publicly acknowledged their sacrifices, crediting their support as the foundation of his 2020 Italian Grand Prix victory.

Career

Gasly’s motorsport journey began at age six, karting at the Anneville-Ambourville track alongside childhood friend Anthoine Hubert. By 10, he competed in the French Minime Championship, finishing 15th in 2006 and fourth the following year.

His talent shone internationally in 2009, culminating in a runner-up finish in the CIK-FIA European Championship in 2010. Transitioning to single-seaters in 2011, Gasly placed third in the French F4 Championship. He clinched the Formula Renault Eurocup title in 2013 with Tech 1 Racing, earning a spot in the Red Bull Junior Team in 2014.

Gasly’s ascent continued with a runner-up finish in the 2014 Formula Renault 3.5 Series and a GP2 Series championship in 2016 with Prema Racing, narrowly defeating Antonio Giovinazzi.

In 2017, he competed in Super Formula, finishing second, and made a one-off Formula E appearance for Renault e.dams. His Formula 1 debut came that year with Toro Rosso at the Malaysian Grand Prix, replacing Daniil Kvyat. Gasly joined Red Bull Racing in 2019 but was demoted back to Toro Rosso mid-season, where he secured his first podium at the Brazilian Grand Prix.

In 2020, driving for the rebranded AlphaTauri, he stunned the paddock with his maiden victory at the Italian Grand Prix, becoming the first French driver to win since 1996. Gasly moved to Alpine in 2023, scoring podiums at the Dutch and São Paulo Grands Prix in 2023 and 2024, respectively.

Despite tensions with teammate Esteban Ocon, Gasly’s 2024 season was notable for his clean record, avoiding car damage, and helping Alpine secure sixth in the Constructors’ Championship.

Accolades

Gasly’s career is marked by significant achievements across various racing series. His 2013 Formula Renault Eurocup championship made him the youngest driver to win the title, showcasing his early dominance. The 2016 GP2 Series title, won in a dramatic finale in Abu Dhabi, solidified his reputation as a top prospect.

In Formula 1, Gasly’s standout moment was his 2020 Italian Grand Prix victory with AlphaTauri, a historic win that ended a 24-year drought for French drivers.

He has amassed five podiums, including second at the 2019 Brazilian Grand Prix, third at the 2021 Azerbaijan Grand Prix, and third-place finishes with Alpine in 2023 and 2024. Gasly also holds three fastest laps in Formula 1 and, as of the 2025 Canadian Grand Prix, has scored 340 World Championship points across 111 races.

His runner-up finish in the 2017 Super Formula Championship and consistent performances in Formula 1, including a career-best ninth in the 2021 Drivers’ Championship, underscore his versatility and resilience.
