Burnley Football Club have bolstered their squad ahead of their Premier League return with the signing of Netherlands international left-back Quilindschy Hartman from Eredivisie champions Feyenoord. The 23-year-old has penned a four-year contract for an undisclosed fee, reported to be around €12 million (£10 million) with potential add-ons, marking the Clarets’ second signing of the summer transfer window.
Hartman, a product of Feyenoord’s esteemed academy, joined the Dutch club in 2010 and made his senior debut in August 2022. He quickly established himself as a key player, featuring in over 75 matches and playing a pivotal role in Feyenoord’s 2022/23 Eredivisie title win under manager Arne Slot. The versatile full-back, known for his pace, defensive tenacity, and attacking contributions, also earned four caps for the Netherlands, scoring on his debut against France in a Euro qualifier.
Despite a setback last season due to a serious knee injury that sidelined him from March 2024 to February 2025, Hartman’s return to fitness and his visit to Burnley’s training facilities last week convinced manager Scott Parker of his potential. The move comes as Hartman’s contract with Feyenoord was set to expire in 2026, prompting the Rotterdam club to cash in rather than risk losing him for free.
Burnley, who secured promotion back to the Premier League, have been active in the transfer market, also confirming the permanent signings of former loanees Zian Flemming, Marcus Edwards, Jaidon Anthony, and Bashir Humphreys, alongside goalkeeper Max Weiß from Karlsruher SC. Hartman is expected to compete with Lucas Pires and Humphreys for the left-back role, offering Parker a dynamic option as the Clarets aim to solidify their top-flight status.
The transfer has sparked mixed reactions among Feyenoord fans, with some expressing frustration, believing Hartman forced the move by refusing a contract extension. A poll by 1908.nl revealed 28% of supporters were “completely done” with the defender, while 34% viewed his departure as logical given his contract situation. Dutch journalist Mikos Gouka defended Hartman’s decision, noting the opportunity to be a regular starter at Burnley was a significant factor.
Burnley announced the signing with their signature flair, releasing a quirky social media video that has already garnered attention. Hartman, who becomes the ninth Dutch player in the club’s history, expressed his excitement, calling the move a “lifelong dream” to play in the Premier League.
