Siblings
Armstead grew up in a close-knit family as the youngest of four siblings, with his parents, Guss and Christa Armstead, fostering a competitive yet supportive environment. His older brother, Armond Armstead, is a former football player who significantly influenced Arik’s career. Armond, born three years earlier, was a standout defensive lineman at Pleasant Grove High School in Elk Grove, California, before playing college football at the University of Southern California (USC). He helped USC win a Rose Bowl in 2008 and later played professionally for the Toronto Argonauts in the Canadian Football League (CFL), where he became an all-star and won the Grey Cup in 2012.
Armond also had a brief stint with the New England Patriots in 2013 but was forced to retire due to medical issues before playing an NFL game. Despite this, Armond remained a mentor to Arik, training with him and offering guidance during his pre-draft process. Arik has often credited Armond’s example and competitive spirit for shaping his own path, recalling how their shared love for sports, including basketball and NFL video games like Madden, fueled their bond. Arik also has a sister, whose name is not widely publicized, reflecting the family’s preference for privacy in certain aspects. Additionally, his brother Aaron Armstead serves as the chairman of the Armstead Academic Project, a nonprofit Arik founded to support educational opportunities for underserved youth. Aaron’s involvement highlights the family’s collective commitment to community service, with Arik noting the importance of their tight-knit dynamic.
