Williams team principal James Vowles has expressed delight at Carlos Sainz’s early contributions to the team, claiming the Spaniard is delivering “more than I paid for” since joining the Grove-based outfit for the 2025 Formula 1 season. Speaking ahead of the Chinese Grand Prix, Vowles highlighted Sainz’s seamless integration and impact both on and off the track.
Williams have enjoyed a promising start to the 2025 campaign, sitting fifth in the Constructors’ Championship after consistent points finishes in the opening rounds. While Alex Albon has been a steady performer, Sainz’s adaptation to the FW47 car has impressed Vowles, who noted the four-time race winner’s methodical approach to unlocking performance.
“I’m very impressed with Carlos,” Vowles said. “He’s not just driving the car; he’s working closely with the engineers, providing detailed feedback, and pushing everyone to find that extra edge. It’s more than I expected so early in his time with us.”
Sainz, who joined Williams after Ferrari opted to sign Lewis Hamilton for 2025, has already contributed points, including a strong showing in China. Vowles believes the 30-year-old’s experience is accelerating the team’s development, with more to come as Sainz fully acclimatizes.
“Carlos is still learning the car, but his work behind the scenes is already paying dividends,” Vowles added. “Once he’s completely comfortable, I think we’ll see him challenging Alex regularly.”
Despite a modest one-point haul in Bahrain, Sainz’s broader influence has silenced early skeptics. Posts on X reflect growing optimism among fans, with many praising Vowles’ decision to secure the Spaniard’s signature. “Sainz is proving why he’s a top driver. Williams got a gem,” one user wrote.
