Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sané has reportedly turned down a staggering €100 million offer from Saudi Pro League leaders Al-Ittihad, signaling his commitment to extending his stay with the German giants. The 29-year-old, whose current contract is set to expire at the end of the 2024-25 season, is now in the final stages of securing a new three-year deal with Bayern, potentially keeping him at the Allianz Arena until 2028.
According to multiple reports, including Sky Sports Germany and Bild, Al-Ittihad presented Sané with a four-year contract worth approximately €25 million net per year, equating to a total package of €100 million (£85m/$113m). Despite the financial allure, Sané prioritized his future with Bayern, where he has been a key figure since joining from Manchester City in 2020. The German international also rebuffed interest from Premier League side Arsenal, further underscoring his desire to remain in Munich.
Sources indicate that Sané’s new deal with Bayern will involve a significant pay cut from his current €20 million gross annual salary (including bonuses). The proposed contract is expected to include a fixed salary of €10 million per year, supplemented by up to €5 million in performance-based bonuses, reflecting Bayern’s strategy to align player contracts with on-field contributions. Bayern’s management has reportedly appreciated Sané’s early commitment to the club, especially his willingness to accept reduced terms to stay.
“Leroy has shown great determination to remain with Bayern,” a source close to the negotiations told Bavarian Football Works. “His decision to reject such a massive offer from Al-Ittihad and turn down Arsenal speaks volumes about his loyalty and belief in the club’s project.”
Sané’s improved performances in the second half of the 2024-25 season have been pivotal in Bayern’s decision to push for an extension. After a challenging first half where he struggled for consistency and often came off the bench, the winger has found his form, tallying 12 goals and five assists in 42 appearances across all competitions. Notably, four of his goals have come in his last six Bundesliga matches, earning him regular starts under coach Vincent Kompany.
Kompany praised Sané’s recent contributions following Bayern’s 3-0 victory over Mainz on April 26, where the winger scored the opening goal. “Leroy is in good form, which is why he’s started a lot,” Kompany said. “He’s helped us a lot lately and scored important goals.” The coach’s comments align with Bayern’s growing confidence in Sané as a cornerstone of their attacking unit, especially as the club plans to bolster its wide options in the upcoming transfer window.
While Bayern’s Director of Sport, Max Eberl, recently denied that a deal was fully finalized, he acknowledged ongoing talks with Sané’s representatives. “What you read is not true,” Eberl said after the Mainz match, responding to reports of a done deal. However, sources suggest that only minor details regarding the contract structure remain, with an agreement expected within the next one to two weeks.
Sané’s decision comes at a time of transition for Bayern’s wing department. The club is reportedly open to parting ways with Kingsley Coman, while Serge Gnabry, Mathys Tel, and Bryan Zaragoza have also been linked with potential moves. With Michael Olise already established as a key figure on the right wing, Sané’s extension ensures Bayern retains depth and experience in their attacking ranks.
