Cornerback Jack Jones has gone unclaimed on waivers and is now an unrestricted free agent, free to sign with any NFL team. The Las Vegas Raiders released the 27-year-old defensive back earlier this week after failing to secure a trade partner, marking the end of his tenure with the organization.

Jones, a former fourth-round pick by the New England Patriots in the 2022 NFL Draft, joined the Raiders off the waiver wire in 2023 following his release from New England. His time with the Patriots had been marred by off-field issues, including an arrest, but he found a fresh start in Las Vegas under then-head coach Antonio Pierce. During his stint with the Raiders, Jones showcased his talent, appearing in all 17 games in the 2024 season with 16 starts. He recorded a career-high 69 combined tackles, 16 passes defensed, and three interceptions, including notable pick-sixes that highlighted his playmaking ability.

Despite his on-field contributions, the Raiders’ decision to part ways with Jones comes amid a shift in team direction. With Pete Carroll stepping in as head coach, the organization appears to be reshaping its roster, and Jones no longer fits into their long-term plans. The Raiders’ attempt to trade him fell through, leading to his placement on waivers earlier this week. However, no team stepped forward to claim him, allowing Jones to hit the open market as of Tuesday, April 8, 2025.

At 27, Jones remains a talented and versatile secondary player with significant upside. His 2024 performance—16 passes defensed and three interceptions—demonstrates his potential to bolster a team’s defense, particularly as a depth option or situational contributor. While he may not be a headlining free agent this offseason, his skill set could appeal to teams looking for cost-effective talent after the upcoming NFL Draft.

Speculation is already swirling about potential landing spots for the young cornerback. Teams like the Washington Commanders, where he could reunite with former Arizona State teammate and current quarterback Jayden Daniels, have been mentioned as a possibility. The Commanders, under head coach Dan Quinn, have been aggressive in reshaping their defense, and Jones could represent a low-risk, high-reward addition. Other contenders needing secondary depth, such as the Carolina Panthers, who struggled defensively last season, might also consider the former Raider.
