New Orleans Saints star running back Alvin Kamara made a high-profile visit to the University of Colorado today, meeting with head coach Deion Sanders amid swirling speculation about the future of Sanders’ son, quarterback Shedeur Sanders, in the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft. The visit, which took place just days after Colorado’s NFL Showcase pro day, has fueled excitement and intrigue about a potential connection between the Sanders family and the Saints, who hold the No. 9 overall pick.
Kamara, fresh off signing a two-year, $24.5 million contract extension with New Orleans in October 2024, was spotted on the Boulder campus interacting with Deion Sanders, widely known as “Coach Prime,” and taking in the electric atmosphere surrounding the Buffaloes program. While the exact purpose of Kamara’s visit remains unclear, sources close to the team suggest it may have been a mix of personal interest and professional curiosity, given the growing chatter linking Shedeur Sanders to the Saints.
Shedeur, a standout quarterback who completed 74% of his passes for 4,134 yards and 37 touchdowns in the 2024 college season, has emerged as one of the top prospects in the draft class. Despite some analysts suggesting his stock could slip from the top three due to a variety of factors, including his decision to skip combine workouts, mock drafts continue to project him as a potential fit for New Orleans. The Saints, currently led by quarterback Derek Carr—who restructured his contract in March 2025 to free up cap space—appear to be in the market for a long-term signal-caller, and Shedeur’s accuracy and poise have caught the attention of NFL scouts.
Deion Sanders, never one to shy away from the spotlight, has been vocal about his son’s NFL prospects. During Colorado’s pro day on April 4, he expressed enthusiasm about Shedeur potentially landing in New Orleans, telling reporters, “I like the colors, I like the city, I like the food. I like the people. I like the possibility.” The comment, delivered with his signature charisma, has only intensified speculation about a Saints-Buffaloes pipeline.
Kamara’s presence in Boulder adds another layer to the storyline. The five-time Pro Bowler, known for his dynamic playmaking ability and leadership on the Saints roster, could serve as a tantalizing weapon for a rookie quarterback like Shedeur. Alongside wide receivers Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed, Kamara would provide a young passer with an arsenal of talent to ease the transition to the NFL. Fans and analysts alike are already envisioning a scenario where Kamara and Shedeur team up to revitalize a Saints offense that hasn’t reached the playoffs since 2020.
While the Saints didn’t have a significant coaching presence at Colorado’s pro day—offensive coordinator Kellen Moore was notably absent, though quarterbacks coach Scott Tolzien and wide receivers coach Keith Williams attended—Kamara’s visit suggests New Orleans may be keeping close tabs on the Sanders family. Deion Sanders has previously stated that Shedeur is focused on communicating with teams picking in the top three (Tennessee Titans, Cleveland Browns, and New York Giants), but he’s also indicated openness to other destinations, including New Orleans.
“Shedeur has told me he’s talked to all the teams,” Deion said last week. “If it’s New Orleans, I’m happy with them, man. Because I know what he’s going to do.”
